For the third year in a row, the D3 Lab is bringing high school students to Nightingale MS to mentor 6th-8th graders and to lead projects based on their own personal and career interests.
Something magical happens when high school students are brought into the middle school environment to work with these younger students: For the high schoolers, they recognize this experience as “real work,” work that has meaning both for themselves and the younger students. They take this opportunity seriously and show a level of enthusiasm and initiative that empowers them to go beyond expectations of the internship. For the middle schoolers, being around high school students provides a level of motivation that comes in the form of having access to a role model who they look up to and respect during the school day.
The D3 Internship is just beginning. Be on the lookout for more blog posts about the program soon.
