C:/dags projects making progress

This week at C:/dags was marked by an eclectic mix of projects and events.  D3 facilitators met with teachers individually to provide feedback on projects ranging from re-thinking campus systems for sustainability (Mr. Gomez, Geography), to designing musical instruments (Mrs. Sujo, Physics).  We also were part of an interesting discussion about new forms of assessment at C:/dags that include categories such as 21st century skills, social/emotional skills, and non-cognitive skills and capacities such as “grit” and “zest”. The day ended with an exciting game of basketball that pitted teachers against students for 4 quarters of sweat-infused fun. The teachers seemed confident going into it, perhaps a little too much so.  Students won by 14 points, with minor injuries sustained to the teachers team.  Better luck next time!

The D3 Lab is a collaboration between the Pearson Foundation's New Learning Institute, COMMONstudio design consultancy, and Nightingale Middle School in Los Angeles. It is one part idea lab, one part design and production facility, and one part "do tank." It is a place where students come to nurture and cultivate ideas, tackle big and small problems, and take action.
