D3@PSP in reel time!

At PSP this week, our 4-6 recurring teens have have been busy directing their films and are beginning to realize the large amount of work that goes into filmmaking! “Everything takes so long” has become a new motto for this project, and indeed it’s true! The teens have been holding themselves to a high standard through our project rubric (see in slideshow above). This was made in tandem with the teens to help support a high quality vision and outcome and has proved to be super helpful because it keeps us as facilitators out of the “Is this good enough?” game. The teens are able to answer that question for themselves!

Along with filming and editing this week, we started the advertising component of this project through our new community partner, Miami Ad School! Our teens worked in one of their out-of-the-box classrooms to research their movie genre and draft design ideas for a movie poster. The teens will use the poster to advertise their screening at PSP!

The D3 Lab is a collaboration between the Pearson Foundation's New Learning Institute, COMMONstudio design consultancy, and Nightingale Middle School in Los Angeles. It is one part idea lab, one part design and production facility, and one part "do tank." It is a place where students come to nurture and cultivate ideas, tackle big and small problems, and take action.
